Why Food Waste Republic?
It is not enough to love food. In a time where food supply is at our fingertips, we needed to better understand where it comes from and goes to. This means tracing the journey of leftovers from farm to fork, or the bin. From working undercover at banquets to collecting food waste from 150 families, we hope to inspire food enthusiasts to look into this looming problem with our in-depth reports on food wastage in Singapore.
Writers – Estelle Low, Miak Aw
They credit their harmless and pitiful looks for helping them gain access to the most forbidden places, such as a food court dumpster and well guarded bin centre. They found joy in investigating uncharted territories, but horror at the grime and grease involved. Despite that, they will gladly get their hands dirty again for another mud-raking project.
Photographer – Chen Wei Li
His specialty for studio portraits gives a unique tone to the investigative element of this project. Watch out for his cheeky undertones in his Pasir Panjang commentary. His height and his bulky DSLR made it extra challenging to snoop in the tight-lipped F&B industry.
