One and only out-of-Singapore shoot
When we started out on this project, we pretty much knew that there is no way we can hop on a plane and fly thousands of miles away from home to do research.
So when one of our interviewees, Mr Ong, suggested taking us on a tour of his chicken farm in Malaysia, we said yes faster than our heart could skip a beat.
Passport, checked.
Malaysian Ringgit, checked.
Suntan lotion and sunglasses (for the ladies), checked.
And off we went.
I’ll be the first to admit; I have never been to a chicken farm before in my life (I bet you didn’t too). The closest i came to a chicken farm was in the movies. You know.. the typical ones in old school American film. So it was quite refreshing to know that:
1. I had to put on a white coat and yellow boots. Don’t pray pray.
2. I have to go through one of these disinfectant sprays that felt like a shower.
3. Cameras don’t go well with the disinfectant sprays.
4. Chicken coops are much more bigger than i expected.
